A gray canvas of history and resilience.

My journey’s first stop unveiled a layered port city, where poignant memories meet a quiet, off-season charm beneath an overcast February sky.

Leaving behind the familiar landscapes of the UK, my European odyssey began with a westward ferry crossing to France. Dunkirk — or Dunkerque — became my very first overnight stop. In the chill of February, the off-season hush wrapped the city like a damp wool blanket. With subdued tones and drizzly skies, the port didn’t aim to impress, yet it quietly compelled — the kind of place that speaks in whispers, not shouts.
