Verdabbio, Switzerland: A Hidden Alpine Retreat Worth the Detour

High in the Swiss Alps lies Verdabbio, a terraced village full of charm, history, and silence. What began as a spontaneous detour became a night of strange mountain encounters, drone flights, sacred art, and the kind of view that stops you in your tracks.

The Hidden Charms of Verdabbio

The journey through Europe wound its way into the heart of Switzerland, to the elegant capital of Bern. There, while staying in a room in a local home through Airbnb, a conversation with my kind Swiss hosts subtly shifted the course of the trip. Over a beer and shared travel stories, I told them about my plans to visit Pella Boleto in Italy—the village of a great-grandfather—and they smiled.

“We have a small cabin in Cama Verdabbio,” they said. “It’s along your route. You’re welcome to stop, rest, and use the facilities.”
